On cross-examination he emphasized that child abuse “was the number one diagnosis that we had in our mind [sic] as we left the emergency room that day.” Unlike a lay witness, an expert witness is allowed to testify to facts or data not admissible in evidence, , if such supportive factual material is of a type reasonably relied upon by experts in the formation of an opinion.
