Education and employment

Daniel J. Kiley was appointed to Division One of the Arizona Court of Appeals by Governor Doug Ducey, taking his seat on January 18, 2023. From 2010 to 2023, Judge Kiley served on the Maricopa County Superior Court, handling cases in the Family, Criminal, Civil and Lower Court Appeals (LCA) Departments. He served for two years as Associate Civil Presiding Judge and, later, two years as Presiding LCA Judge. Prior to his appointment to the superior court in 2010, Judge Kiley was a commercial litigator in private practice with the firm of Mohr, Hackett, Pederson, Blakley & Randolph P.C. and its successor, Sherman & Howard L.L.C. He began his legal career as an Assistant Attorney General, representing the State of Arizona in criminal and asset forfeiture cases at the trial and appellate levels.

Judge Kiley received his bachelor’s degree cum laude from Harvard University and his law degree cum laude from Arizona State University College of Law (now the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law), where he was a Note & Comment Editor for the Arizona State Law Journal. He has been active in the bar association and other community organizations, including serving as President of the Public Lawyers Division of the Maricopa County Bar Association (MCBA), Co-Chair of the MCBA’s Bench-Bar Committee, Vice Chair of the City of Mesa Judicial Advisory Board, and a member of the Board of Directors of NPH USA – Southwest Region (formerly known as Friends of the Orphans).
